Q: What are Opal Sky Media’s plans for its collaborative partnership model?

A: We are actively expanding our transmedia publishing platform and welcome proposals from new content creators and partners. As a partnership-based publisher, we’re open to suggestions that extend our creative network and bring new voices and perspectives into our publishing program.

Q: What do you look for in potential collaborative partners and their projects?

A: Our editorial focus is on exploring multicultural identity as lived experience — particularly how migrant, immigrant, and intercultural identities are shaped in an increasingly complex world. We’re interested in creative work across formats, including written, graphic, illustrated, and video/new media projects. At minimum, we look for projects that align with (or meaningfully extend) our focus on cultural storytelling and lived experience.

Q: What if a proposal interests you but requires funding to be realized?

A: This depends on the project. We’re open to sharing both the costs and potential returns on projects we believe in, particularly transmedia works. While traditional e-books remain our starting point, we’re especially interested in supporting projects that go beyond conventional formats.

Q: Are you open to proposals / projects originating in other countries?

A:  Yes. While we are based in Australia and have a strong focus on multicultural Australian experience, we actively welcome international proposals. We work with an international network of freelancers and are interested in expanding our collaborative talent pool across different countries and cultures. At present, we publish in English only but are open to proposals for projects in other languages [CALD].

Q: How do you work with collaborators during the development process?

A: We take a collaborative approach. Depending on the project, we may offer editorial guidance, research support, design input, or co-development. We aim to work with creators rather than simply publishing finished work.

Q: Do you offer advances or development funding?

A: We consider development funding on a case-by-case basis for projects that strongly align with our publishing direction, particularly transmedia works. We generally prefer to discuss funding as part of a collaborative development process.

Q: What happens after I submit a proposal?

A:  We review all proposals and will contact you if we’re interested in discussing the project further. Due to circumstances, we’re unable to provide individual feedback on every submission.

Q: Do you accept unsolicited manuscripts?

A:  Not generally: we prefer to receive a short proposal or pitch first rather than a complete manuscript. This allows us to assess fit more efficiently.
